I got Chickens!

I am so excited! After many years of asking my husband has finally relented! So of course he is the only one in the house not excited that we brought home these 6 adorable, fluffy little bantam chicks! Yes, that's right, I said bantam. Meaning half the size of regular chickens. Turns out their eggs are so small it takes 3 to make 1 regular sized egg. But they are still delicious!

These babies are so fun to watch. We had a little adventure the first 24 hours. One of the little chicks didn't make it. Unfortunately that is to be expected. We found out our brooder wasn't quite warm enough. The 5 little chicks would huddle together under the heat lamp and weren't eating or drinking. So after a little reading and some surfing through forum of one of my new favorite website: www.backyardchicken.com I finally figured out what was wrong and within an hour they were running around like- well you know what- and eating and drinking. They are such funny little characters.

Also after searching for 2 days, I think I have finally figured out what breeds I have. The local store we purchased them at gets them through an Ohio hatchery. They are sent in mixed batches so the clerks had no idea what they were. I have been told that Aster and Scamper are Australopes and Pearl, Luna, and Lily are Cochins.  So without further ado, here are their pictures.

Pound Puppies Round 2

My project is now steadily on its way to becoming a reality. A month ago I had the dream to create a project to photograph rescued dogs as you have read in my previous post. I was so excited to see how many people were interested in helping me and allowing me to photograph their pups. But, really how surprising is it that anyone would want to get pictures of their beloved pooches and have them hung on a wall for all to see?! As every animal lover and pet owner knows, our pups, cats, little furry critters, and beautiful winged creatures are loved beyond measure and we LOVE to show them off!

A big thank you goes out to Ms Sharon  for letting me photograph her 2 pups last week. We had a great time. Once again they weren't quite sure what to think of the paper they had to stand on. But a couple cookies and a favorite toy helped them to relax and have fun. By the end of the shoot one had just given up and fallen asleep on the paper!

A very special thanks goes to my 12 year old son. Without him it would not have gone so smoothly. 1 month ago we decided to homeschool our 6th grader. Now he gets to come along with me on my photo shoots and he absolutely loves it. Especially the ones with pets! What little boy wouldn't?! And what a great learning experience for him too!

So here is a sneak peek from this shoot. I will not post full pictures right now because I am keeping the pictures secret until they are all hung in a gallery. Can you guess what kind of dogs these are? Oh and I was told one of them is quite the princess, so we had to add a little flair!
