Carrie and Russell

I am so excited to announce that I shot my very first wedding! It was such a wonderful experience.

I have to tell you I was quite nervous because it was on a boat! I remembered as soon as I stepped on board the Lantern Queen that the last time I was on board a boat I got seasick! But luckily that was on a small cruise ship, and this was only a river boat!

Carrie and Russel are an amazing couple. You can not reproduce such joy and happiness even if you tried. These two have been through a lot, but they have such a zest for life! They had some amazing stories to tell and I loved listening to all of them.

I think the best part of the wedding was meeting so many incredible people from all over the country and the world! A good many guests were from New Orleans, so of course I was ribbed plenty about my name. I used to really like my name....... I got to spend some time with a woman who was from Korea and her lovely husband. Then of course there were the 2 sons of the bride. They were the liveliest of them all!

So I hope you enjoy some teasers from the wedding..........

Spring Chicken

These chicks are just too cute. They are great amusement! They will scratch at the ground, pecking for any tiny morsel that may have fallen, as well as a few unlucky sugar ants who have gone in to investigate. They run around with each other, and then out of the blue one will just fall asleep where she stands. Her head will slowly lower and she'll be standing with her head on the ground fast asleep. Then 2 minutes later she's off and running. Talk about a power nap! Boy I wish I could do that. Though I would be then diagnosed with narcolepsy!

What a beautiful week we are having for Holy week/ Spring break. How many of you are on Spring break this week? How many have it off next week? Have any special plans, or day trips in mind? My children and I are just enjoying the beautiful Spring weather in our own backyard. For two days I have been attacking the weeds in my gardens, saving the gorgeous flowers that are already coming up, some already having bloomed. Also getting the raised bed vegetable garden ready to be planted. Are you planting anything this Spring?

I got Chickens!

I am so excited! After many years of asking my husband has finally relented! So of course he is the only one in the house not excited that we brought home these 6 adorable, fluffy little bantam chicks! Yes, that's right, I said bantam. Meaning half the size of regular chickens. Turns out their eggs are so small it takes 3 to make 1 regular sized egg. But they are still delicious!

These babies are so fun to watch. We had a little adventure the first 24 hours. One of the little chicks didn't make it. Unfortunately that is to be expected. We found out our brooder wasn't quite warm enough. The 5 little chicks would huddle together under the heat lamp and weren't eating or drinking. So after a little reading and some surfing through forum of one of my new favorite website: www.backyardchicken.com I finally figured out what was wrong and within an hour they were running around like- well you know what- and eating and drinking. They are such funny little characters.

Also after searching for 2 days, I think I have finally figured out what breeds I have. The local store we purchased them at gets them through an Ohio hatchery. They are sent in mixed batches so the clerks had no idea what they were. I have been told that Aster and Scamper are Australopes and Pearl, Luna, and Lily are Cochins.  So without further ado, here are their pictures.

Pound Puppies Round 2

My project is now steadily on its way to becoming a reality. A month ago I had the dream to create a project to photograph rescued dogs as you have read in my previous post. I was so excited to see how many people were interested in helping me and allowing me to photograph their pups. But, really how surprising is it that anyone would want to get pictures of their beloved pooches and have them hung on a wall for all to see?! As every animal lover and pet owner knows, our pups, cats, little furry critters, and beautiful winged creatures are loved beyond measure and we LOVE to show them off!

A big thank you goes out to Ms Sharon  for letting me photograph her 2 pups last week. We had a great time. Once again they weren't quite sure what to think of the paper they had to stand on. But a couple cookies and a favorite toy helped them to relax and have fun. By the end of the shoot one had just given up and fallen asleep on the paper!

A very special thanks goes to my 12 year old son. Without him it would not have gone so smoothly. 1 month ago we decided to homeschool our 6th grader. Now he gets to come along with me on my photo shoots and he absolutely loves it. Especially the ones with pets! What little boy wouldn't?! And what a great learning experience for him too!

So here is a sneak peek from this shoot. I will not post full pictures right now because I am keeping the pictures secret until they are all hung in a gallery. Can you guess what kind of dogs these are? Oh and I was told one of them is quite the princess, so we had to add a little flair!

Project Pound Puppy

Some of you may know by now that I have started a personal project that I am calling Project Pound Puppy. I am an avid pet lover. I have worked at an animal rescue in the past and now have the wonderful opportunity to volunteer at some local shelters by offering up my photography skills.

I have begun taking photos of dogs who have been rescued from any of the area shelters. There are so many ads out there on tv about all the dogs who need homes, but not much is written about the dogs who have found homes and the wonderful people who have taken them in.

When I am finished with my project I will be putting these pictures in a local gallery (most likely one of my favorite spots- a local coffee shop). Each photo will come along with a short story and picture of their new family.

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Delta Dew the other day. We had a great time! He wasn't too sure what my paper backdrop was. He must've thought it was some scary monster at first because it made such an odd noise every time he stepped on it. But as soon as mom pulled out his favorite toy, that monster was instantly forgotten. That's what we love about labs! They have such intense focus when it comes to  toys or anything that they love! That being said I will post just one of the pictures I took that day.

Why hire a professional?

Why would you hire a professional instead of shopping at Walmart or JCPenney's? There are many reasons! Though today I am showing you an example of just one.

Walmart does not edit your photographs. Sure they can put the photo into black and white or sepia. But they do not remove scratches, blemishes, lint, etc.

This process doesn't take just one click of the mouse. It can sometimes take quite a long time to remove every little blemish. We are very meticulous about our work! This is just one reason why you will pay more for a professional than Walmart portraits. We offer quality, not Quantity!

Please look below and you will see an example of what you pay for when you hire a professional.

Work Picnic

I am so very behind in editing these pictures. My husband had a work picnic back in October. It was absolutely freezing that day! But we all had a fantastic time. We had a wild bird sanctuary come out and show us some animals. The lovely lady with the hawk is also a fellow photographer. Then the "boys" played a "football" (as 3 of them are doctors from Spain, Columbia, and Switzerland!) My boys gave them a run for their money though and these docs were panting when they were done. But it wasn't over yet. They had to p[lay a round of American Football as well! So here are some pictures from the day to put a smile on your face!

Happy New Year

Ah... the new year is here already. With it of course is coming changes. As you have now noticed, the blog has gotten a face lift! Isn't it beautiful?! I feel all grown up now! I am still working out the kinks, such as : how to make these posts more easily accessible. But all in all it is so much nicer than the original.

Check out the new equine page! As show season begins, I hope to be able to add more photos! If you know of anyone looking to do Senior portraits with their beloved horse, please send em my way! My heart has always belonged to the equine. It is my first love. My goal in starting this business is to be able to fund my horse habit and eventually find a new companion for myself and maybe one day one for each of my 3 children. Yes that is right I said 3!

Next on my to do list is to make up a page all about ME! But that is always the hardest one to do!

I vow for the new year to blog more! And of course that means more pictures as well! So go on over to the side of the page and click on follow so you don't miss out on anything this year! There will be specials run throughout the year.

Right now I am booking appointments for Valentines day. If you go on over to the Investments page you will see all the different sessions I do. You will also notice that I have added boudoirs to my list.

Here is the special: Because I do not have any boudoirs in my profile, I am giving away 2 free sessions  with discounted prints to the first 2 ladies to sign up. My only rule is you must be 18 years of age and be able to prove that. Of course i will be discreet and if you do not wish your photos to be posted online I will respect that.
